President Kovind greets people on Mahavir Jayanti, regional New Years

NEW DELHI: On Mahavir Jayanti, President Ram Nath Kovind addressed residents and also extended warm greetings to Vaisakhi, Vishu, Rongali Bihu, Naba Barsha, Vaisakhadi, and Puthandu-Pirappu.

He expressed best wishes to all people, particularly the Jain community, saying: "By following the vows of Ahimsa (nonviolence), Satya (truthfulness), Asteya (non-stealing), Brahmacharya (chastity), and Aparigraha, Lord Mahavira demonstrated the road to spiritual freedom (non-possession). As the foundation for living a balanced human life, he taught renunciation and restraint, love and compassion, modesty and righteousness." he said as per Rashtrapati Bhavan statement. "On this occasion, let us all take a promise to work towards spreading nonviolence and removing all forms of social evils in the community." he added.

The President also wished everyone a happy Vaisakhi, Vishu, Rongali Bihu, Naba Barsha, Vaisakhadi, and Puthandu-Pirappu.

He expressed his best wishes to all Indians residing in India and abroad, saying: "These celebrations, which take place all throughout the country, highlight our diversity while also emphasising our unity. The festivities are a source of delight for the agricultural community, who work ceaselessly for the country's welfare and progress." According to the Rashtrapati Bhavan communiqué, he also urged everyone to decide to work together for peace, prosperity, and happiness, as well as to disseminate the message of unity and brotherhood for the nation's progress.
