AGARTALA:  President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday flagged off two trains namely the Jan Shatabdi Express, which would go from Agartala to Khongsang in Manipur, and also the Agartala-Guwahati-Kolkata Special Express.

The President, along with Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha, flagged-off the two trains of Northeast Frontier Railway at Agartala railway station, on the outskirts of the capital city.

The President's office in a tweet said: "President Droupadi Murmu flagged off Agartala-Khongsang Jan Shatabdi Express & Agartala-Kolkata Express from Agartala Railway station.

 The trains that run between Tripura and Assam, West Bengal, and Manipur would increase the region's connectivity and tourism." said NFR's Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO), Sabyasachi De. 

The  Guwahati-Kolkata-Guwahati Express train has been extended up to the capital of Tripura, Agartala, once a week in order to further boost rail connectivity of Tripura with the rest of the nation.

The express train would run with a composition of 14 coaches. The express train (Agartala-Kolkata) used to run regularly, leaving Agartala every Wednesday morning and arriving in Kolkata the following afternoon. The train would leave Kolkata every Sunday in the opposite direction and arrive in Agartala on a Tuesday night.

The Jan Shatabdi Express train would run three times every week on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from Agartala to Jiribam and Khongsang in Manipur. Under the 110 km long Jiribam-Imphal new line project, this portion was newly built, the CPRO  said.

He said that the time required to go by train from Agartala to Khongsang would be less than half that required to travel by road, taking only about seven hours to traverse the same 300 km. He also, the Jan Shatabdi Express train will have brand-new Linke Hofmann Busch coaches with the newest facilities for passengers. He also mentioned that a Vistadome coach has been added to this train to enable passengers to view the beautiful mountain views while journey.

Modern glass windows and all-glass roofs on the Vistadome coaches with transparent glass windows and roofs that provide 360-degree views let passengers to see the sky, mountains, tunnels, bridges, hills, tea gardens, and verdant forests.
