NEW DELHI: India President Droupadi Murmu received Suriname's highest honour, the 'Grand Order of the Chain of the Yellow Star'.
Notably, President Droupadi Murmu is on her first state visit since becoming president of the country, to Suriname.
She tweeted using her official Rashtrapati Bhavan feed, "I am immensely delighted to receive Suriname's highest accolade, "Grand Order of the Chain of the Yellow Star." "This acknowledgment is enormously important for the 1.4 billion Indians I represent as well as for myself. I especially dedicate this honour to the subsequent generations of the Indian-Surinamese community, who have made outstanding contributions to deepening the bonds of friendship between our two nations, she said.
"It is even more wonderful to receive this decoration at the historic celebration of the 150th anniversary of Indian presence in Suriname, she said It has even more significance if this honour serves as a symbol of empowerment and inspiration for women in both of our nations. Murmu is in Suriname for a three-day trip that will end on Tuesday.
During the president's visit, a number of agreements were also inked between the two nations.
The first Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) relates to pharmaceuticals, drug regulators, and collaboration in the sphere of medical product regulation, exchange of best practises, and capacity building. Several MoUs were also signed between the two countries during the president's visit.

A cooperative work plan for the agricultural and related sectors was also signed and shared under an existing memorandum of understanding for the years 2023 to 2027. The buyer's credit which India had extended to Suriname has also been restructured.
