New Delhi: The Budget Session of the Council has begun today. The session began with President Ram Nath Kovind's address to the joint sitting of both the Houses of Parliament. President Kovind in his address said that 80 per cent of the farmers in the country are small farmers, who have contributed significantly to the development of the country. 1 lakh 80 thousand crore rupees have been provided to more than 11 crore farmer families through Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi. With this investment, the agriculture sector is witnessing major changes today.

The President said that women empowerment is one of the top priorities of my Government. While giving equal status to sons and daughters, my government has also introduced a bill in Parliament to increase the minimum age for marriage of girls from 18 years to 21 years at par with men. "I bow to the millions of freedom fighters of the country who gave top priority to their duties and gave the country its rights. I also bow to all the dignitaries who have contributed to the country's development journey in these 75 years of independence.''

President Ram Nath Kovind further said that this is the third year of the global pandemic caused by the coronavirus, during which we have seen the faith, discipline and devotion of the people of the country in their democratic values become stronger. He said that the proof of India's capability in the fight against coronavirus has been seen in the vaccination drive. We set a record of administering more than 150 crore vaccine doses in less than a year. Today, we are among the leading countries to administer the highest number of vaccine doses in the whole world.
