Features of Sudarshan Bridge:

  • The construction of this bridge was approved by the Central Government in the year 2016 and its foundation stone was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 7 October 2017.
  • People living on Lakshadweep will also benefit from this.
  • Sudarshan Setu exhibits a unique design, with a walkway decorated with verses from the Srimad Bhagavad Gita and images of Lord Krishna on both sides.
  • In this, solar panels have also been installed on the upper part of the walkway, from which one megawatt of electricity is produced.
  • This bridge will further ease the movement of vehicles and will significantly reduce the time of devotees traveling between Dwarka and Beit-Dwarka road.
  • Before the construction of the bridge, pilgrims had to depend on boat transport to reach Beit Dwarka. If there was bad weather, people had to wait for a long time.
  • This iconic bridge will also act as a major tourist attraction of Devbhoomi Dwarka.

Bridge details:

  • The bridge deck is made of composite steel-reinforced concrete consisting of a 900 m central double span cable-stayed span and a 2.45 km long approach road.
  • The 27.20 meter wide four-lane bridge has 2.50 meter wide footpaths on each side.
  • This bridge was known as 'Signature Bridge', its name has been changed to 'Sudarshan Setu' or Sudarshan Bridge.

Importance of Bet Dwarka:

  • Bet Dwarka is an island near Okha port, about 30 km from Dwarka city, where the famous Dwarkadhish temple of Lord Krishna is located.
  • According to officials, as of now devotees visiting the temple in Bet Dwarka can travel by boat only during the day.
  • Now that this bridge has been inaugurated, one can go and have darshan of Dwarkadhish at any time.

Prime Minister Modi said:

  • “This bridge will reduce the distance between Dwarka and Bayt Dwarka and provide convenience for pilgrims and tourists.”
  • "This bridge is a symbol of development and prosperity."

This bridge is an important development project for Gujarat and will play an important role in improving the standard of living of the people of the region.
