NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday wished his forerunner Manmohan Singh on his birthday praying for his long life.

Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who turned 85 on Tuesday, was the Prime Minister between 2004 and 2014 during the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government.

His political career began in 1991 when he was appointed as the country's Finance Minister under late Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao.
It was the same year during which he helped the Indian economy ushers in the era of "liberalisation and privatisation".
Wishes also came in from the Congress party.

Singh, the architect of economic reorganization that led to years of rapid growth, was born in 1932 in Gah village of Jhelum district in what is now Pakistan's Punjab province.
Singh, who turned 85 on Tuesday, was the Prime Minister between 2004 and 2014 during the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) regime.
It was the same year during which he helped usher in "liberalisation and privatisation" to the Indian economy.
