Prithviraj Kapoor, who made 'Mughal-e-Azam' everyone's favourite film, passed away on this day. He had brought the industry up a lot with his contribution. Prithviraj Kapoor was born on November 3, 1906. He was born in Lyalpur in Punjab which is in Pakistan today. His father was a police officer. Kapoor began his acting career in the theatres in Lyallpur and Peshawar. Prithviraj Kapoor is said to have wanted to be a good lawyer and that is why he moved to Edward College in Peshawar.

Here he took a course of about 2 years. It was during that time that he started liking theatre, he use to invest whatever money he made. He borrowed money in 1928 and came to Mumbai. Here he worked in the Imperial Film Company in the early stages. He soon joined the Imperial Films Company in Bombay and went on to work in Ardeshir Irani’s Alam Ara  During the 1930s, Kapoor played lead roles in many films produced by the New Theatres in Kolkata. His first major breakthrough film turned out to be Debaki Bose’s Rajrani Meera. In the next few years was a number of successful films like Seeta, Manzil, President, and Vidyapati. By the late 1930s, Kapoor returned to Bombay and worked in a number of melodramas produced by Chandulal Shah’s Ranjit Studio.

It is said that Prithviraj did not have tantrums even after being a very big star. He had walked on hot sand during the Film Mughal-e-Azam to ask for a vow in Ajmer. Let us tell you that prithviraj died of cancer at the age of 66 on May 29, 1972.
