Pakistan's Human Rights Minister Shireen Mazari has lodged an official complaint with the United Nations, demanding the removal of Indian actress Priyanka Chopra as a UN goodwill ambassador over her "support for war" amid heightened tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbours.

Mazari has recently cited the Indian actress' staunch nationalism and support for the action taken by the Indian government in Jammu and Kashmir. In a letter to UNICEF Executive Director Henriketa For, Mazari said, Ms Chopra has publicly endorsed Indian government position on Kashmir and also supported the nuclear threat issued to Pakistan by the Indian Defence Minister. All this goes completely against the principles of peace and goodwill that Ms Chopra is supposed to uphold as an UN Goodwill Ambassador for Peace."

Mazari has also referred to the crisis in the region due to the cancellation of the special status given by the Narendra Modi government to the state of Jammu and Kashmir and allegedly the ethnic cleansing of Kashmiri Muslims there and he alleged that "the Modi government is a threat to the North East." The Indian state of Assam is denying citizenship to 40 lakh Indian Muslims. Indian security forces have intensified the use of pellet guns against women and children in Kashmir.

Just as Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has accused the Indian prime minister of being Hindu supremacy and racist, Mazari also said, "The entire policy of the BJP government is like the Nazi doctrine of , racism, fascism and genocide. Chopra has publicly supported the Indian government's stand. She has also supported the nuclear threat to Pakistan by the Indian Defence Minister."
