Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra attacked the ruling BJP government over the issue of soaring prices of cooking gas and commented that if the government was indeed honest about its Ujjwala Scheme, it should provide subsidies to the poor. She said if the government is honest about its Ujjwala scheme it should give subsidies to the poor and reduce inflation.
Priyanka’s attack on the govt came a day after PK Narendra Modi launched Ujjwala 2.0, the second phase of the PMUY scheme, by virtually presenting free LPG connections to some beneficiaries in Mahoba district of Uttar Pradesh which goes to polls early next year.
In a tweet, Priyanka noted: "Ninety percent of the cylinders provided under Ujjwala Scheme are lying in disuse and women are forced to cook using firewood because the BJP government has doubled the rates of a cooking gas cylinder in the last seven years and reduced subsidy to a negligible amount.." In multiple tweets, Priyanka tagged a media report on the problems being faced by the poor due to rising prices of cooking gas and posted, "If the government is honest about Ujjwala then it should give subsidies to the poor and reduce inflation.”
Previously on Tuesday, the UP Congress had said that Ujjwala Scheme had proved to be a “hollow gimmick” of the government as a domestic cooking gas cylinder was costing Rs 888.
