New Delhi: On Tuesday, in Gujarat congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra delivered her first political speech and interestingly, began her address with ‘meri behno aur mere bhaiyon’ (my sisters and brothers), an invocation that is generally said while referring to the men first (as in, ‘mere bhaiyon aur beheno’). Her unique gesture was pointed out on Twitter by Congress MP from Assam's Silchar Sushmita Dev, who lauded Gandhi for her improvisation.

While taking to Twitter, Dev shared a video clip of Vadra’s speech and posted, “The speech of Priyanka Gandhi ji in Gujarat stood out for many reasons. I loved the fact that in her address she changed the order most people follow by referring to women before men ie  बहनो और भाइयों & not the other way around.” To this, Vadra – who joined the micro-blogging site last month – replied saying, “...and I thought no one noticed!’

It is to benoted that in her eight-minute long speech at Gandhinagar in Gujarat, Vadra, the AICC General Secretary of Uttar Pradesh (East), lashed out at the Narendra Modi government and urged voters to vote carefully and asked people to focus more on bread and butter issues. She alleged that the NDA government was attempting to distract people’s attention over “needless issues” as the Lok Sabha election was fast approaching.

However, at a public rally in Ahmedabad that day, Vadra also touched upon the issue of women safety and attacked the BJP-led Centre. She said, “Awareness is your weapon, vote is your weapon.” Vadra also said, “This nation is based on love and brotherhood. It is sad at what is happening in the country these days. There is no bigger patriotism than awareness. Your awareness is a weapon; your vote is a weapon. It is a weapon that will not hurt or harm anyone. It is a weapon that will strengthen you and the country.”
