Lucknow: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath recently said that 'At one time about 38 districts in Uttar Pradesh used to be prone to floods, but today it can be said that there are only four to six districts, where flood situation arises.' Along with this, he said- 'If there are timely training, awareness and proper measures for prevention, then the loss of the disaster can be brought to the minimum level.' In fact, today i.e. on Wednesday, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath reached the third regional conference on disaster management organized at Indira Gandhi Pratishthan and while addressing the gathering here, he said, 'You are all welcome to the inaugural session of this two-day event. In this, the Uttar Pradesh government hails the nine states which are affected by the calamities. This is an important conference because it is being held in Uttar Pradesh, the state with the largest population.

Along with this, Chief Minister Yogi said that 'If timely training, awareness and proper measures are taken for prevention, then the loss of disaster can be brought to the minimum level.' Prime Minister Narendra Modi activated NDMA. Aapda Mitra can also be deployed in the districts. Some circumstances in floods are natural but some are also man-made. This situation arises from the settlements in the catchment of the river. There are two months of flood in Uttar Pradesh. First, there is a flood in the districts adjacent to Nepal, then there is a flood situation in the coastal districts of Ganga-Yamuna. Timely preparation and preventive measures are helpful for this. The contracting practice is also a factor in the situation arising out of this. There has been a dam on the Saryu River for decades, the Elgin Dam. Hundreds of crores of rupees were wasted on this over decades.

He further said, ''When we came in 2017, a proposal came before me that Rs 100 crore was needed for flood relief. I said stop now, let me see this time, I myself surveyed it, then reviewed it. Then channelized into the river. Where 100 crore rupees were spent annually. Now in the last five years, flood control is being done at a cost of five to eight crore rupees. Last year the cost was Rs 8 crore.''

With this, Chief Minister Yogi said, 'Awareness programs for disaster, flood, earthquake are very helpful. Deaths due to lightning are the maximum in Mirzapur Sonbhadra in Uttar Pradesh. For this, the warning system is very important. Due to the alert system, many deaths can be prevented.'

Apart from this, he also said that death due to corona was also in the category of disaster, but the timely work done by India presented a model to the whole world. 30 thousand 131 deaths occurred due to Covid, but 22 thousand of deaths occur every year in road accidents. This road accident is also a matter of concern. For this also we need an awareness campaign.
