NEW DELHI: Members of the minority community gathered in huge numbers outside the Jama Masjid here, raising chants against suspended Bharatiya Janata Party politicians for their recent controversial remarks about Prophet Mohammed.
People gathered on the steps outside the Jama Masjid, waving posters condemning former BJP spokespersons Nupur Sharma and Naveen Jindal.
The protest took place shortly after Friday prayers. The protesters demanded that the suspended BJP leaders be arrested immediately.
It's also worth noting that Nupur Sharma and three others have been charged with making alleged hate statements during a debate on a television news programme.
"We have filed an FIR against people who were distributing hate messages, agitating numerous groups, and creating situations that threatened public order," said the statement.
"Based on the analysis, one case has been filed against Nupur Sharma, while another has been filed against various social media entities." On Thursday, Delhi Police PRO Suman Nalwa said that notices would be sent to social media intermediaries seeking the facts.
