PUDUCHERRY: Puducherry Chief Minister N. Rangasamy, who also holds the finance portfolio, will present the Union Territory's comprehensive budget before August 31.

The Legislative Assembly's budget session will begin on August 10. The session will be opened by Governor Tamilisai Soundarrajan, who will deliver the traditional address. Following the Governor's remarks, the business advisory committee will convene to determine the budget date.

Notably, the Legislative Assembly passed a Vote on Account for Rs 3,613 crore to cover the government's expenses for the five months from April to August. The Planning Board met under the Lieutenant Governor and approved a Rs 11,000 crore budget for the UT for fiscal 2022-23. The budget spending for the previous year was Rs 9294.41 crore, which was greater than Rs 1075.59 crore. The Union government has already budgeted Rs 1,729 crore in financial support for Puducherry. 

Puducherry, on the other hand, is concerned about the federal government's intention to end the GST compensation, and the predicted revenue deficit for the Union Territory if the GST compensation is not extended beyond June 2022.

Meanwhile, the UT Government of Puducherry has appointed three consultants to draught a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the development of a new Integrated Legislative Assembly complex in Thattanchavady, close the municipal limits of Ouragret.

The Union Ministry of Home Affairs will give the funds for the construction of the Integrated Legislative Assembly Complex, and the Puducherry government has already requested special central assistance of Rs 335 crore in two installments for the legislative complex's development.
