New Delhi: Often you must have heard from politicians that India is a secular country and our Constitution provides equal rights to a person of every religion and community. But when it comes to enforcing this right to equality on the ground, these politicians, the Constitution, and secularism, forget everything, they remember just their vote bank, which they can do anything to keep them happy. Now, priests have sat on a sit-in outside Delhi CM and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supremo Arvind Kejriwal's house demanding one such equality.
The protesting priests are demanding that when clerics- Imams, and Muezzins can be paid salaries with government money, why can't we? Thousands of priests are protesting in front of CM Kejriwal's house on Tuesday (February 7) for this demand. Priests say that unless the Delhi government pays salaries to the priests and works to protect Sanatan Dharma, this sit-in protest will continue like this.
Salary to the Imams then why not to the priest:- The issue of paying salaries to Imams and Muezzins in Delhi mosques has been raised earlier as well. The issue was raised by the BJP during the MCD polls held in Delhi. At that time, there was a demand to give monthly salaries to clerics and Imams as well as priests of temples and gurudwara. As many as 225 Imams and Muezzins of around 185 mosques registered with the Delhi Waqf Board are paid salaries by the government. According to a report, Imams get a salary of Rs 18,000 per month and Muezzins get Rs 14,000 per month. Apart from this, 14 thousand rupees are given to Imams of unregistered mosques and 12 thousand rupees to Muezzins every month in Delhi Waqf Board. However, no money is paid by the government to the priest of any temple or the Granth of the gurudwara. Let us tell you that the salary of the Imams of the mosque is given by the Waqf Board, but the state government grants this Waqf Board.
