Pune: A major road accident has taken place in Alandi adjoining Pune this Saturday morning. According to the information received, a batch of devotees going to attend the Kartik Ekadashi festival here has been hit by an uncontrolled pickup truck. While 30 devotees were injured in the accident, six of them are in critical condition. According to the information revealed, two people have also died.
Police have rushed all the injured to a nearby hospital after receiving information about the incident. The driver of the pickup truck has reportedly been arrested. As part of the full details of the accident, on the occasion of Kartik Ekadashi, devotees had left for Dindi Alandi with a tractor-attached palanquin in a small group. On Saturday morning, a pickup truck coming from behind crushed several people in the convoy as soon as the palanquin approached Umbre village in Khalapur on the way to Alandi.
The injured devotees are said to have been admitted to various nearby hospitals with the help of six ambulances. Amidst all this, several devotees who were seriously injured in the accident are reported to have died. On the other hand, the police administration has categorically denied the allegations.
