A 25-year-old mentally challenged man allegedly hacked his aunt to death with a sharp-edged weapon and injured two other relatives in Kharar's Macchli-Kalan village.
According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Rupinderdeep Kaur Sohi, the Accused name Lakhwinder barged into Saroj Bala (aunt) 's residence around 1:30 pm on Monday and stabbed her with a sharp-edged weapon. Lakhwinder allegedly switched his attack on his daughter-in-law when she ran to save her.
Saroj Bala, 60, was the spouse of accused Lakhwinder Singh's father's younger brother. In this attack Jyoti, Bala's 32-year-old daughter-in-law, and Saroj Rani, 68, the wife of Lakhwinder's father's elder brother, were both hurt and Saroj Bala lost her life.
According to the Police, Bala was attacked on the head and she bled to death on the spot, while Jyoti and Rani were grievously injured. They are being treated at the PGIMER in Chandigarh.
Lakhwinder was apprehended at the scene and he was booked for assaulting the other woman and murdering the victim. The accused is reportedly mentally unstable, the official said
According to cops, the accused and victims' families live in the same village and they are looking into the matter. As of now the motive behind committing this crime is not clear.
