Amritsar: NRI Kulwant Singh alias Kanta was shot dead and killed at around 10 pm on Friday at village Jodha of Baba Bakala sub-division of Amritsar, Punjab. The assassins shot him 16 bullets indiscriminately. Kanta came to India from America on December 9. It was to be finalized on December 24. Officials of Amritsar (countryside) police reached the spot as soon as the incident was received. The police have taken the body of Kulwant Singh and transported it to the civil hospital in Baba Bakala for postmortem.

Balwinder Singh, a resident of village Jodha, has told that his younger son Kulwant Singh is a transporter in America. On Friday night, Kanta went to the house of 2 relatives living in Qadi with his family to look for the girl. After that, he was returning to the village, including the family, at around 8 o'clock at night. Meanwhile, his nephew Harmanpreet Singh received a call that 3 young men had come on Pulsar and were talking about meeting Kulwant. On this, Kulwant told his nephew that he was coming in a while, till then he would give tea to the three, but the trio left from there and said they will come back after a while.

At 10 o'clock in the night, the 3 young men came again and called Kulwant outside. As soon as Kulwant came out of the house, the killers fired 16 bullets at him. Kulwant died on the spot. The attackers then escaped on the bike.
