CHANDIGARH: The Punjab cabinet on Friday given its permission to recommend to Governor Banwarilal Purohit the dissolution of the 15th Punjab Vidhan Sabha.At a virtual cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi at his official residence here, a decision to this effect was reached.
According to sub-paragraph (b) of clause (2) of Article 174 of the Constitution, the Punjab governor is authorised to dissolve the state legislature, according to a spokeswoman for the Chief Minister's Office.
This move, which is required by the constitution, will clear the way for the creation of the 16th Punjab Vidhan Sabha (Legislative Assembly).At the conclusion of the meeting, the Chief Minister thanked all of his cabinet colleagues, officers, employees, and constituents for the state's overall development and peace and tranquilly during the current administration's tenure.
He also welcomed the new government and expressed his hope that it will work hard to fulfil the promises made to the people. He believed that the measures taken by his government in the public interest, such as the reduction of power rates, the elimination of the VAT on oil, and the decrease of sand and gravel rates, would be continued by the future administration.
