Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh will participate in the elevation event of newly appointed Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu's on Friday, July 23. Sidhu will take over the post on July 23 replacing Sunil Jhakar, a long-time Amarinder loyalist.
Sidhu and Amarinder Singh have been in conflict for the past some time, with the Amritsar (East) MLA recently attacking the CM over the desecration cases. The issue was finally settled after Sidhu was given the PPCC chief post by the Congress high command.
Sangat Singh Gillian and Kuljit Singh Nagra, two of the four newly appointed working presidents for the state party unit, extended a formal invite to the Chief Minister at his farmhouse in Mohali's Siswan for the installation ceremony.
The chief minister had also opposed his appointment as the state Congress chief and had said he won't meet Sidhu until the cricketer-turned-politician apologized for his ''derogatory'' tweets against him. Earlier, it was reported Sidhu had sent an invite for the event to Singh that was signed by about 65 party MLAs.
The party’s working president, Kuljit Singh Nagra, said former Uttarakhand chief minister and Congree in-charge of Punjab’s affairs Harish Rawat has said he would come to the programme.
