Chandigarh: In Punjab, political turmoil has erupted after Navjot Singh Sidhu resigned as president of the Congress state unit. Meanwhile, state CM Charanjeet Singh Channi addressed a press conference after holding a cabinet meeting today. Channi has made a big announcement on electricity bills in Punjab. He said the outstanding bills of two kW consumers will be paid by the government and their connections will be restored.

Giving more details, CM Channi said, "Two rounds of meetings have been held on the electricity bill. Many people are forced to live without electricity. Many people have disconnected electricity connections. 55,000 to 1 00,000 people have been disconnected in the state.' He said the September bill will not be included in the process. The Punjab government will pay the dues till August. CM Charanjeet Singh Channi said, "The Punjab government will pay the bills of 53 lakh families with electricity bills up to 2 kW. The payment of these bills will put an additional burden of Rs.1200 crore on the exchequer of the Punjab Government.''

CM Channi further said that a committee will be formed at the block and tehsil level to waive the electricity bill. The committee will consist of SDO and other nominees who will take stock of the work. Take information about houses up to kilo watts meters. This work will start from today itself.
