Amritsar: Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu, who expressed concern over the power situation in Punjab yesterday, owes a bill of more than 8 lakh rupees to the state power company. According to the website of Punjab State Electricity Corporation Limited (PSPCL), the electricity bill of Sidhu's house in Amritsar has not been paid for 9 months and the total bill has gone up to 8,67,540, which has not yet been deposited.

Amid power shortage in Punjab, ruling Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu on Friday requested for a new law to repeal the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) signed during the previous Shiromani Akali Dal (Shi'ad) -Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government. Indirectly attacking CM Amarinder Singh, Sidhu said if the state works in the "right direction," there will be no need to cut power or regulate office hours in Punjab.

In a series of tweets on the power issue, Sidhu said that PPAs are not in the interest of the people of the state and should be canceled. Sidhu said, "The cost of electricity, the reduction, the reality of power purchase agreements and free and 24-hour electricity to the people of Punjab. There is no need for power cuts in Punjab or the CM need not regulate the use of AC during office or by the common people. If we act in the right direction.''
