Amritsar: Punjab Deputy CM Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa on Tuesday cited an alleged photograph of Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar with a Nihang leader saying the brutal killing of a Dalit labourer on the Singhu border was a possible conspiracy to defame farmers' protests. Former Congress Punjab unit president Sunil Jakhar also alleged that central agencies may have been involved in last week's murder at a farmers' protest site near the Delhi-Haryana border.

Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar and a man are seen wearing blue costumes of Nihang Sikhs. The Union Minister had earlier met the protesting farmer leaders to hold talks to resolve the deadlock over agricultural laws. Randhawa, without naming anyone, said the same Nihang leader was "defending" the main accused in the murder. The Nihang group had killed the victim, accusing him of indecency with the Sikh holy book.

Randhawa said in a statement, 'The murder case has taken a completely new turn after it came to light recently that a Nihang leader was in touch with the Government of India, especially Agriculture Minister Tomar.' He said it seems to be a deep conspiracy to defame the farmers' movement. Randhawa further said that Dalit Lakhbir Singh, a resident of Cheema Kalan village in Taran Taran district, was extremely poor. He said, 'We need to find out who lured him to the Singhu border and who paid for his trip, because he didn't even have money to eat.
