New Delhi: Kumar Vishwas has been given a major relief by the Punjab-Haryana High Court over his statement against Delhi CM and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal. The court has stayed the arrest of Vishwas. A case was registered against Vishwas in Ropar in Punjab. He is alleged to have made false allegations of Kejriwal's links with Khalistan.
Kumar Vishwas had filed the petition saying that the case registered against him was motivated by sheer misuse of the process of law and politics. He had said that the manner in which the investigating agency is moving forward, it is clear that it is trying to curtail the liberty of the petitioner by adopting a procedure which has nothing to do with the law. A case against Vishwas was registered on April 12 at Sadar police station in Rupnagar in Punjab. Vishwas had accused Kejriwal of supporting separatists ahead of the Punjab assembly elections. The Punjab Police had reached Vishwas's residence in Ghaziabad on April 20 and summoned him for questioning.
The complainant claimed that while he was visiting villages along with AAP supporters to redress people's grievances, some unidentified masked men stopped him and called him Khalistani. The complainant had said, "Such incidents are taking place regularly. It all started when Kumar Vishwas made provocative statements against Arvind Kejriwal on news channels/social media platforms alleging AAP's links with separatist elements.''
