The ASI on Monday shot and wounded in an encounter in village Poohla of Tarn Taran. In spite of this, ASI Malkit Singh caught gangster Rachpal Singh, showing goodwill. However, his partner managed to escape from the scene. Police of five districts had investigated in the case of murder and smuggling of Rachpal.
SSP Dharman Nimble said that the police party had received information that the wanted gangster Rachpal is hiding in village Poohla. On this, ASI Malkit Singh of Kotwali Bhikhiwind reached the village with the police party and started raiding. The gangster got a clue of it. He tried to escape by sitting on a motorcycle with one of his companions. When the police party surrounded him, Rachpal started firing.
A bullet hit ASI Malkit Singh's leg. Malkit caught Rachpal in a wounded condition. A pistol and two magazines have been seized from the possession of the accused. Police of Bhikhiwind police station has started proceedings by registering a case of intention-to-murder on both the accused. The injured ASI has been admitted to a private hospital in Bhikhiwind. A domestic semi-automatic pistol, 2 magazines, 6 cartridges and a motorcycle were recovered from the gangster. DGP Dinkar Gupta said that Rashpal alias Dola, a resident of Bhuchad Kalan district Tarn Taran, is wanted in many cases. She is also associated with terrorists. He has 8 FIRs registered in Amritsar, Tarn Taran and Mohali under separate sections of NDPS and Arms Act.
