Punjab Police and Punjab National Bank (PNB) teams got banned for four years and two years respectively from further participation in the Nehru tournament. Both the teams had gotten into a brawl on Monday during the 56th Nehru Senior Hockey Tournament finals.  

The team will not be given prize money. In fact, just before the end of the third quarter, this final was somehow completed despite the Hawkeyes being nudged from both sides after a light push between the two teams. In this, Punjab National Bank won the final 6-3 after both teams were on the field with eight players in the last quarter.

According to information received from the sources, in this final, the fight started in the field, certainly due to the Punjab Police's Hardeep Singh by hoisting hockey in the foot of Sumit Topo of Punjab National Bank. On this, if Sumit had not run hockey in a huff, it might not have created a ruckus. The tournament organizing committee decided that PNB will no longer be given two lakh rupees as the winner and one lakh rupees to the Punjab Police as runner-up. Kukku Walia, general secretary of the managing committee of the Nehru Hockey Tournament, sent a video clipping of the incident to the Additional Director General of Punjab Police informing him of the entire matter and about banning his team from participating in the tournament for four years. .
