HOSHIARPUR: A big success has been achieved by the Punjab police, around eight kg of heroin has been seized. The police officials have busted a gang of drug smugglers and arrested three persons, on Saturday.
Senior Superintendent of Police Navjot Singh Mahal said working on a tip off, a police team stopped an SUV. Addressing the media we said the SUV at Thuana village on the Mahilpur-Phagwara road on Friday night. While searching the vehicle, police seized 8kg of heroin. The accused names include Sukhwinder Singh, a resident of Barnala, and Manpreet Singh and Jagdeep Singh, both residents of Patiala, officials said. The SSP said that police have identified the persons to whom the drugs were to be livered in Hoshiarpur and other districts of Punjab. Let us also tell you that, this man Sukhwinder Singh is listed in several cases. The cases registered against him are under the Indian Penal Code, the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention)Â Act in various police stations of Punjab and Delhi. According to sources, he often used to visit Pakistan and allegedly developed connections with drug smugglers.
In another incident, police recovered Rs 20 lakh cash and five kg of poppy husk from a jeep at Garna Sahib. The cars' occupants, names include Surinder Singh, Phuman Singh, and Shinder Pal Singh have been arrested. During preliminary investigation, it found that the trio was going to Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir for bringing the contraband.
