Amritsar: A case of atrocities on Guru Granth Sahib has come to light from the Muktsar district of Punjab. It is alleged that a young man had insulted the scripture by picking it up from the original place and placing it in the courtyard. The youth is Arshdeep Singh, the son of the gurudwara's attendant, and is said to be mentally retarded. In view of the seriousness of the matter, the managers of the Gurudwara kept the matter under wraps, but the police were informed when the locals reached the gurudwara in protest at night.
The incident took place in Anakhera village under the Malot sub-division of the Muktsar district. Baba Bhindi Chand Gurudwara located here is open a few days ago. Gurusevak Singh, the gland of the gurudwara, has informed that he had gone to his room after performing Nitnam as usual. There are two rooms in this gurudwara itself. Meanwhile, Arshdeep Singh, the 22-year-old son of attendant Santokh Singh, reached the Gurdwara at 9 am on Monday (December 27). He took the Guru Granth Sahib outside and also insulted the dagger kept there.
Granthi said that when the father saw the young man doing so, he caught him and brought the scripture and established it at its original place. The father says his mental condition is not good and he has tried to commit suicide in the past. The youth himself is said to have come and served in the gurudwara. However, the villagers have expressed doubts about Arshdeep Singh's mental condition and demanded a detailed investigation into the incident. Malot DSP Jaspal Singh Dhillon said that the incident was reported to the police after 12 hours. Police have arrested the accused youth and started investigating the case.
