Punjab's IAS officer arrested for taking bribe of 2 lakhs

New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested senior IAS officer Paramjit Singh, posted as director of Punjab Roadways in Chandigarh. Officials said Paramjit Singh has been arrested for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 2 lakh to recommend an officer's name for promotion. 

Officials said that while the CBI had conducted the raid, Singh was allegedly taking bribe money to recommend the officer's name for promotion to the principal secretary of Punjab's transport department. He said the CBI raided Singh's premises in Mohali and Chandigarh from where Rs 30 lakh was recovered. He said the person from whom Singh had allegedly demanded the bribe had complained to the CBI.

CBI spokesperson R C Joshi said that "it was alleged that the accused had demanded a bribe of Rs 5 lakh from the complainant to recommend his name to the principal secretary of punjab transport department for promotion to the post of general manager". He said it was also alleged that the bribe amount was negotiated and the accused agreed to accept Rs 2 lakh.
