Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered authorities to start mass voluntary vaccinations for coronavirus against Covid-19 next week.

Russia recorded 589 new daily deaths from infection. Putin said that Russia will have produced 2 million vaccine doses within the next few days. Russia said last month that its Sputnik V jab was 92% effective at protecting people from the disease according to interim results.  Putin told deputy PM Tatiana Golikova that “Let’s agree on this you will not report to me next week, but you will start mass vaccination... let’s get to work already.” In the meantime, health minister Mikhail Murashko said over 100,000 people had already been vaccinated. The move comes soon after the United Kingdom gave emergency approval to US drugmaker Pfizer and German firm BioNTech's coronavirus vaccine. Golikova said large-scale voluntary vaccinations could commence in December. Sputnik V jointly developed by the Russian Direct Investment Fund and the Gamaleya National Research Center of Epidemiology and Microbiology.

Russia has reported a total of 23,47,401 infections and is the fourth-largest number of cases in the world after the United States, India, and Brazil.
