The Indian women's badminton team led by two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu has crashed out after suffering a 0-3 defeat to Thailand in the quarterfinals of the Uber Cup here on Thursday. World number seven Sindhu did not look in her colours for the second consecutive day and lost 21-18, 17-21, 12-21 in 59 minutes to world number 8 Ratchanok Intanon in the first singles match.

After this defeat, Sindhu's record against Intanonke has become 4-7. The women's doubles pair of Shruti Mishra and Simran Singhi have lost 16-21, 13-21 to Jongkolphan Kititharakul and Ravinda Prajongzai, leaving India trailing 0-2. Now the onus was on Akarshini Kashyap but she too has suffered a 16-21, 11-21 defeat to Pornpawee Chochuwong in the second singles match that lasted 42 minutes. With this, Thailand took an unassailable 3-0 lead, leaving the remaining two matches a mere formality which they have decided not to play.

In the second women's doubles, the India duo of Tanisha Crasto and Trisa Jolly have faced Benyapa Amsard and Nuntakarn Amsard, while Ashmita Chaliha will face Busanan Ongbamrungphan in the women's singles. Earlier on Wednesday, Sindhu had to face a 15-21 14-21 straight-game defeat against world number four Korean N Seyong in the final match of India's Group D. India had lost the match 0-5 but with the victory over the US and Canada, they finished second in the group and made it to the quarter-finals. India's hopes are now pinned on the men's team which is set to face Malaysia in the quarterfinals of the Thomas Cup.
