NEW DELHI: On account of the quality education being given  in Delhi government schools,  as many as1,141 students have cleared JEE and NEET examinations, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said on Friday.

Kejriwal was speaking at an event organised to felicitate toppers of the National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) and Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) at Thyagaraj Stadium in New Delhi.

In congratulating the student, Arvind Kejriwal said that 18 crore students attend government schools nationwide, and the majority of them in subpar conditions.

"We can upgrade these public schools in the same manner we did in Delhi. We gave students an excellent education, and as a result, 1,141 students from our government schools passed the JEE and NEET exams, he claimed.

Kejriwal went on to say that there was once a misconception that governments couldn't manage schools and that these institutions should be turned over to the private sector or managed through CSR programmes.

"Education is a fundamental human right; it is not a matter of altruism. If we give every child a solid education, we can end poverty in the nation, he asserted.

Kewjriwal felicitated 28 students who secured ranks in the top 1,000 in JEE and NEET exams.
