Disgraced singer R. Kelly's estranged daughter, Buku Abi, has come forward with shocking allegations of childhood sexual abuse. In the two-part documentary "R. Kelly's Karma: A Daughter's Journey," Abi claims Kelly abused her when she was just 8 or 9 years old.

Abi recalls waking up to Kelly touching her, feeling paralyzed and pretending to be asleep. She initially kept the alleged abuse secret, fearing repercussions. In 2009, at age 10, Abi confided in her mother, Andrea Kelly, who supported her in filing a police complaint. However, no charges were filed due to the delay in reporting.

Kelly's attorney, Jennifer Bonjean, vehemently denies these allegations, citing previous investigations by the Illinois Department of Children & Family Services that found no evidence. Bonjean questions the documentary's credibility and argues that if Abi's claims had merit, they would have surfaced during Kelly's numerous indictments.

Kelly is currently serving concurrent 20- and 30-year prison sentences for child pornography and enticement of minors for sex. Abi believes jail is a "well-suited place" for her father.

Kelly's attorney, Bonjean, stated in a recent interview with People that her client is "the most investigated person on the planet" regarding child sexual abuse allegations. She contended that if Abi's claims had any validity, they would have been included in one of Kelly's numerous indictments. In 2023, Kelly was sentenced to 20 years in prison following a Chicago trial on charges of child pornography and enticement of minors for sexual purposes. Prior to this, he had already received a 30-year sentence for a sex-crimes case in New York. Currently, he is serving both sentences concurrently and is expected to be eligible for release in 2045. In her book, A Daughter’s Journey, Abi expresses that, based on her "personal experience," she believes jail is a "well-suited place" for her father.
