World number one player of Spain, Rafael Nadal, has been given the second-seeded position in the third Grand Slam Wimbledon in the year starting July 2, while Roger Federer of Switzerland was given the top seed.
In this Grass Court tournament, Federer had to settle for the loss in the final of the ATP Halle Grasscourt tournament after losing the top position in the rankings. Croatia's Borna Korich defeated Federer 7-6 (8/6), 3-6, 6-2 in the final on Sunday. Federer lost his 99th title and lost 50 ranking points after getting defeated by Nadal.
The organizers do not pay much attention to the ATP ranking and give weight to the player's performance in the ranking. Federer has been the winner of eight times in Wimbledon and will be able to save his title while Nadal is going to Wimbledon after winning the French Open for the 11th time.
Marin Cilic of Croatia, ranked fifth in the world, Croatia's third and third ranked German player Alexander Zverev has been ranked fourth. Recently returned to the court and Andy Murray of Britain's two-time champion here has not been given the preference this time. Serena Williams , the seven-time champion in the US, has been given the 25th position despite her world ranking of 183th. Among women, Simona Halep of Romania got top ranking. Russia's Maria Sharapova got 24th and Serena's older sister Venus got the ninth position.
