Leh: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi took a direct swipe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday, countering the Prime Minister's assertion that no land had been lost in Ladakh. While paying tribute to his late father Rajiv Gandhi on his birth anniversary in Ladakh, Rahul Gandhi contested the claim, inviting anyone to verify the reality with the local population. Gandhi emphasized that the people in the region had reported that the Chinese army had indeed entered the area and encroached upon their grazing land. He underscored their concerns, stating, "Here, the concern is, of course, China has taken away the land... people have said that China's army has entered the area and taken away their grazing land."

Furthermore, Rahul Gandhi addressed the discontent among the residents of Ladakh with their current status. He revealed that they had expressed dissatisfaction and raised multiple complaints. In terms of governance, Gandhi advocated for a more participatory approach, asserting that the state should not solely be managed by bureaucracy but rather by the collective voice of the people. "There were so many complaints from the people of Ladakh, they are not happy with the status that has been given to them, they want representation, and there is a problem of unemployment... people are saying that the state should not be run by bureaucracy but state must be run by the voice of people," he stated.

Reflecting on his visit to Ladakh, Gandhi explained that while the original plan was to include Ladakh in the Bharat Jodo Yatra, logistical constraints prevented that. As a result, he decided to undertake a detailed visit to the region to address the concerns on the ground. In conclusion, Rahul Gandhi reiterated his skepticism about the Prime Minister's claim regarding Ladakh's land status. He emphasized the need for open dialogue and verification, stating, "Here, the concern is, of course, China has taken away the land... people have said that China's army has entered the area and taken away their grazing land."
