Congress President Rahul Gandhi has termed the increase made by the Narendra Modi government in the Minimum Support Price (MSP) on Kharif crops as very nominal. He said that this is nothing but "marketing". Rahul Gandhi compared this Modi government's move to the farmers' debt waiver by the Congress-JD (S) coalition government in Karnataka.

He tweeted, " As per the increase in the MSP on behalf of the Prime Minister, a budget of just Rs 15000 crores has been set for India's 12 crores farmers. It is like band-ed putting on canker." The Congress President said, "In Karnataka, we waived debt of more than 34 thousand crore rupees for all small farmers."

It is worth mentioning that in the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approved the proposals to increase the MSP of 14 Kharif crops on Tuesday. Before the Lok Sabha elections next year, Modi Government has given a big gift to the farmers.

On Wednesday, the government has approved the new support price of Kharif crops, with the promise of 50 per cent more than the cost. The minimum support price of paddy has been increased by Rs 200 per quintal to Rs 1,750 per quintal, while the A grade paddy has been increased by Rs 160.
