New Delhi: The election for the post of National President of Congress is going to be held on October 17. However, before the elections, many senior party leaders wish that Rahul Gandhi should become the party chief. But, Rahul Gandhi does not seem to be in the mood to accept this post. Meanwhile, some Congress leaders on Wednesday (September 14) said that it is possible that some state units of the party may pass a resolution expressing their confidence in the leadership of the Gandhi family. Apart from this, they can also request Sonia Gandhi to continue as party president.

The party has officially stated that reaching an opinion is necessary to decide the unanimous election of a person to the post of Congress President. Failure to do so will result in an election. On the other hand, party leader Madhusudan Mistry has asked the party's Returning Officers (PRO) to speed up the election process of state Congress presidents before September 20. Media reports quoted sources as saying that Madhusudan Mistry has asked the PRO to hold PCC meetings in the next three or four days. According to sources, the Congress leader has said that if anyone wants to pass a resolution regarding the PCC Congress (National) President, they are free to do so.

At the same time, a senior Congress leader says 'I can only say that nothing is pre-decided, the election is up to the PCC. But, now it is clear that Rahul Gandhi will not contest for the post of President and at the same time he also wants that no member of the Gandhi family should become the President of the party. In such a situation, there is no justification for passing the resolution by the state units.'
