New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday blasted Prime Minister Narendra Modi, alleging that only eight days of coal stocks are left in the country

"Eight years of big talk has resulted in India only having eight days of coal stocks," Rahul remarked. He urged the "Centre to turn off the hate bulldozers and focus on the power plants to avert the loss of small-scale companies, which would result in more job losses."  "Stagflation is looming, Modi Ji. Small businesses will be crushed by power outages, resulting in significant job losses. Switch off the hatred bulldozers and focus on the power plants! "Gandhi sent out a tweet.

PM Modi's decision on June 18, 2020, to auction 41 coal mines for commercial mining in order to make India's energy self-sufficient by cutting imports was also shared by the Congress leader. He connected it to the country's present coal-related crisis.

In the wake of reports of continued coal and electricity shortages across the country, Union Home Minister Amit Shah met with Power Minister RK Singh, Coal Minister Pralhad Joshi, and Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav on Tuesday.

Officials claimed the meeting came after multiple states warned of a potential power crisis owing to a lack of coal supplies to power facilities. There are reports of domestic thermal power plant coal inventories being depleted in 12 states, including Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Punjab, Jharkhand, and Haryana, which are experiencing power outages ranging from 3 to 8.7%.

R. K. Singh, the Union Power Minister, has blamed the Russia-Ukraine conflict for the sharp increase in imported coal costs. This is due to the inadequate availability of coal-transporting railway wagons.
