New Delhi: Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi has attacked the government over the decision of the Railways, in which 109 pairs of private trains have been announced. In this regard, Rahul tweeted on Thursday "Rail is the lifeline of the poor and the government is snatching it". Rahul wrote in his tweet that, "Rail is the only lifeline of the poor and the government is taking away from them. Whatever to snatch, snatch. But remember, the people of the country will give a befitting reply."
Railways on Wednesday formally initiated a plan to allow private units to run passenger trains on its network. Under this, eligibility requests have been invited for the operation of passenger trains through 109 modern trains on 109 routes. Railways have given this information railway said that there will be an investment of about Rs 30,000 crore from the private sector in it.
This is the first step for private investment for the operation of passenger trains on the railway network. However, it was started by the Indian Railways Food and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) last year with the Lucknow-Delhi Tejas Express. IRCTC operates three trains Kashi-Mahakal Express, Lucknow-New Delhi Tejas and Ahmedabad-Mumbai Tejas on Varanasi-Indore route.
