Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday, August 28, slammed the BJP over a recent Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) report which pointed out that the saffron party’s political donations have gone up by 50 percent in the last financial year.  According to the report by ADR, the saffron party’s total income during 2019-20 was Rs 3,623.28 crore. It also said that the party spent Rs 1,651.022 crore or only 45.57 percent during that period.

Sharing a comment on his Twitter handle, Rahul Gandhi noted "BJP's income rose by 50 percent. And yours?" The Congress leader also shared a news report, which cited the ADR report claiming that the BJP's income rose by 50 percent in 2019-20, the bulk of donations came through electoral bonds.

Earlier on Friday, ADR in its report said that between 2018-19 and 2019-20, the income of BJP increased by 50.34 percent (Rs 1,213.20 Cr) from Rs 2,410.08 Cr during the financial year 2018-19 to Rs 3,623.28 crore during the FY 2019-20. Meanwhile, the income of Congress decreased by 25.69 percent (Rs 235.82 Cr) from Rs 918.03 Cr during FY 2018-19 to Rs 682.21 Cr during the FY 2019-20.

However, NCP reportedly registered the highest increase in income. "Between 2018-19 and 2019-20, the highest percentage increase in income was declared by the NCP of Rs 34.873 cr from Rs 50.71 Cr in 2018-19 to Rs 85.583 Cr during the FY 2019-20," it said.
