NEW DELHI: Former Congress National President Rahul Gandhi is on a four-day visit to Kerala on Tuesday. Here he will visit other flood affected areas of the state including his Lok Sabha constituency, Wayanad. Rahul Gandhi has also sent a letter to Union Rural Development Minister Narendra Singh Tomar urging him to expand the scope of works under Manrega in Kerala.

Rahul Gandhi has demanded the Modi government at the Centre to extend the minimum working day for a family to 200 days. In a letter dated August 23, Rahul Gandhi said, "Kerala has witnessed the worst floods in the past few decades. Heavy rains, floods and landslides have made people homeless and thousands of houses remain unliveable due to mudslides."

Rahul Gandhi has said that in the past, the Ministry of Rural Development had made special arrangements under Manrega for disaster-affected villages, development blocks or districts notified by the state government. Rahul Gandhi, MP from Wayanad, said, "In addition, Section 3(4) of the MGNREGA Act, 2005 empowers the Central Government to increase the prescribed number of employment days."
