With the counting of votes underway across 1,100 centers to elect the 17th Lok Sabha, all eyes will be on who comes victorious at the end of this mammoth exercise. In yet another stunning turn of events, Rahul Gandhi is sailing smoothly in Wayanad, but is suffering a nervous counting in Uttar Pradesh’s Amethi where he is trailing to BJP’s Smriti Irani.

As counting progressed, Gandhi established a lead of over three lakh votes, probably the biggest margin in the Lok Sabha elections in the State. However, there was a palpable sense of disappointment with the Congress-led UPA's poor show in other States with senior leaders trailing according to the latest trends.
The Congress president was elected to the Parliament from his traditional Amethi seat, a family bastion, for three terms in a row. This Lok Sabha election, however, he took the advice of his party workers and chose to contest from Wayanad in Kerala as well.
The Congress chief is lagging behind BJP's Smriti Irani in Amethi, according to the Election Commission. Congress workers said they were happy that they could ensure a resounding victory for Gandhi but expressed disappointment over the dismal show of the party in other parts of the country.
