NEW DELHI: After Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, The United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Chairman Sonia Gandhi has also refused to suggest the name of interim chairperson for the party. Senior Congress leaders continued to seek suggestions from Rahul Gandhi about the name of the interim Congress President, but Rahul Gandhi refused to give any suggestions.

Former Congress President Gandhi has said that you people should choose an interim president for the party outside the Gandhi family. When Congress party leaders asked Sonia Gandhi about the name of the interim president, Sonia refused to suggest the name of Rahul Gandhi, saying that the party leaders should elect the interim president on their own. Sonia Gandhi said that if you choose the interim president of the party, we will continue to have a cooperative attitude towards the party.

Sonia Gandhi responded by constantly asking the leaders that if we suggested the name of a leader, there would be allegations that the Gandhi family wanted to put a puppet of her as Congress President. After Rahul Gandhi's resignation becomes public, the Congress party is now forced to nominate someone for interim president till a new president is elected. Even though the name of the interim president of the party is still being used, no face is visible in the party.
