What is Kavach - 'Kavach' is an anti-collision technology. This technology will help railways achieve its target of zero accidents. In such a situation, as soon as this technology detects another train on the same track within a certain distance, it is able to apply automatic brakes through the device mounted in the engine of the train while continuously alerting it. How the armour system works- Kavach is an indigenous automatic train safety system that is certified at sil4 (Safety Integrity Level-4), the highest level of safety integrity developed by RDSO (Research Design and Standards Organisation).

This system gives the loco pilot signals about the position of the signal as well as other aspects, permanent speed restriction (PSR) and keeps alerting the driver about the over speed. In such a situation, if the loco pilot does not respond, the system automatically starts to start applying the brakes after the pre-determined time. The armour system maintains contact with the existing signalling system and its information is constantly shared with the authorized persons involved in the operation. Yes, and the system is fully capable of alerting the station and loco driver to take immediate action in case of any emergency, preventing side-collision, face-to-face collisions and rear collisions. At the same time, the system continuously alerts in case of rollback/forward and reverse the movement and provides information about level crossing gates through the automatic city.
