The process of filling more than one lakh vacancies has been almost completed in the massive recruitment drive taken out by the Railways. It is reported that about 2.4 crore youths had applied online for getting jobs in these different railway posts. It has been learned that the Railway Recruitment Board has filled the posts of 17,500 lac pilots out of the 64,371 vacant posts of assistant lac pilots and technicians. The remaining posts will be filled up after the completion of medical treatment.

Incoming recruitments - Earlier, recruitment procedures were run for more than 2.98 lakh vacant posts in Railways. This information was given by the government. Actually, Railway Minister Piyush Goyal was asked questions in this regard in the Lok Sabha. In response, Piyush Goyal said that till June 1, 2019, 2.98 lakh posts in the Railways were vacant. These are being filled by recruitment processes. Goyal also informed that over 4.61 lakh people have been recruited in the railways in the last 10 years.

Railway Minister Piyush Goyal further said that 'recruitment is a continuous process. Till now, examinations have been conducted for 1,51,843 posts. Examinations for 1,42,577 posts will be conducted in 2019-20. In this, the reservation of economically weaker sections (EWS) is also being taken into consideration. Railways are the largest department in the country providing a large number of government jobs. Every year thousands of people are admitted to the railway. Railway jobs are divided into four groups (Group A, B, C, and D). Apart from this, some jobs are technical and some are non-technical. The eligibility conditions for all jobs also vary. There are also some jobs in Indian Railways which are found on the basis of the 10th standard. Apart from this, some class 12th are also taken out on the basis of several graduations.

Railways had a total of 13,08,323 employees in the year 2016-17. Also 8 years ago, that is, there were 13,86,011 employees in 2008-09. That means 77,688 employees were reduced in 8 years. According to the Railways, 2,66,790 posts of Group C and D were vacant in January 2018. These do not include Group A and B vacancies. Railway examinations are conducted by Railway Recruitment Board or Railway Recruitment Cell.
