Amid concerns about the lockdown and changes in the labor law by various states of Corona, NITI Aayog vice-chairman Rajiv Kumar said on Sunday that reform does not mean abolition of labor law altogether. He said that the central government is committed to protect the interests of the workers. In recent times, various state governments including Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat have either amended the existing labor laws or are thinking about that. State governments claim that they are doing so as part of their efforts to help businesses affected by covid-19.
In his statement, Kumar said about this, "It has come to my notice that the Union Ministry of Labor is going to tell the states that they cannot abolish the labor laws because India can sign the International Labor Organization (ILO). Countries, "he said." Therefore it is clear that the central government does not believe that amendment in labor laws means abolition of labor law altogether. The government is committed to protecting the interests of workers.
For your information, let us tell you that recently the Uttar Pradesh government has approved an ordinance to revive economic activities in the state. After the passing of this ordinance, various industries have been exempted from following various labor laws for the next three years. Madhya Pradesh has also made some changes in labor laws to promote economic activities. Some other states are also thinking about this.
