NEW DELHI: Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh said on Wednesday that the Defense Ministry is striving toward achieving self-reliance.

Speaking at a training session for non-official directors of defence PSUs, Singh said, "Right now, the Defence Ministry is dedicated to increasing self-reliance. And also, our nation is in a phase of transitional self-reliance", adding that "We (the Defense Ministry) have agreed to accomplish the goal of 1 lakh 75 thousand crore defence production." .

"Although we have a very large goal, we are devoted to positively achieving it. By 2024–2025, there is an export objective of approximately 35,000 crore, according to Singh, who also noted that DPSUs would significantly aid in the achievement of the goal and contribute between 70–80 percent".

The defense minister said, the success of this movement depends on the involvement of each and every department under the control of the federal and state governments. He went on to say that defense Ministry, along with other ministries, have been encouraging all concerned sectors, from government units to Public Sector Units, in this direction and that this is the first event of its kind being organised by the Defense Ministry in which non-official directors are meeting at one time.

Singh said, "our Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as well as all departments, have shown believes on non-official directors to achieve the target of self-reliance".
