Raju Srivastav was one of the renowned faces in the entertainment industry. He is known as the King of Comedy in India. Unfortunately, we lost him at the age of 58. On the birth anniversary of the great comedian have a look on his journey.

Raju Srivastav real name was Satya Prakash His father was a popular poet in Kanpur and used to entertain the audience with his poems, but Raju was fond of comedy since childhood. He wanted to become a comedian. Raju Srivastava started his career with the TV show 'Tea Time Manoranjan'. Raju was seen sharing the stage with artists like Suresh Menon and Brajesh Harjee in this show which aired on Doordarshan.

He got recognition from 'The Great Indian Laughter Challenge'. In this show, Although 'Gajodhar Bhaiyya' was the runner up in this show, the audience gave him the title of 'The King of Comedy'. Raju once speaking about his struggle said, 'When I came to Mumbai, people did not consider comedians as big actors. The humor simply started with Johnny Walker and ended with Johnny Lever. There was no place for stand-up comedy then, so I could not find a place.   

Meanwhile, the comedian‘s journey is full of struggle. Raju Srivastava came to Mumbai to become a comedian, also faced a lot of trouble there. Money sent from home used to fall short in a city like Mumbai. Raju Srivastav also drove an auto to bear the expenses. He also got his first break because of riding auto.  Someone identified Raju’s Talent and gave him chance.  When he started getting shows, he did comedy for 50 rupees.

 Raju Srivastava has passed away at the age of 58.  Raju Srivastav has featured in various Hindi films such as "Maine Pyar Kiya", "Baazigar", "Bombay to Goa" (remake) and "Aamdani Atthani Kharcha Rupaiya". He was one of the contestants on "Bigg Boss" season three. He was the chairman of the Uttar Pradesh Film Development Council.
