NEW DELHI: In the Rajya Sabha on Friday, DMK members protested against Tamil Nadu Governor R.N. Ravi and requested permission to speak on the topic, which was denied. Chairman M. Venkaiah Naidu denied them and urged the MPs to return to their seats.
Soon after the Zero Hour began, DMK MPs began shouting slogans against the Governor of Tamil Nadu for returning the bill passed by the state Assembly exempting students from the NEET examination. Some opposition party members joined them for a short time.
Naidu, who asked them to bring up the issue during the President's address during the Motion of Thanks, indicated that the problem could not be debated in the House because he had not admitted it.
The Governor has humiliated the state Assembly, according to DMK MP Tiruchi Siva, by returning the bill passed by it exempting the state's students from the NEET examination.
The angry MPs remained in the House well, shouting slogans. They staged a walk-out from the House later on.
Following the Zero Hour, the Chairman stated that no Member may speak without the Chairman's authorization. "Today, a topic relating to a state was brought up, and the chair refused to admit it, therefore the matter was not authorised. Only when the House is in order can the LoP speak "Naidu remarked.
