New Delhi, India: CPI(M) and BJP MPs clashed in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday, accusing each other of playing politics over the 529.45 km semi-high-speed K-Rail-Silverline Project in Kerala.
The CPI(M)-led Kerala government's SilverLine project has been engaged in political controversy due to significant protests over the survey and marking of the corridor border.
In the Upper House of Parliament, CPI(M) MP John Brittas said that Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw was playing "petty politics" over the project, and that the Congress and the Muslim League were working together on it.
Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs V Muraleedharan, on his part, accused Kerala's government of "misleading" the public about the K-Rail project, calling the opposition's protest "ill-motivated."
He said that there was a significant law and order scenario, with people protesting the project being beaten and intimidated by the Left administration, which is seen as a defender of the poor. The Upper House was debating the Ministry of Railways' operations.
