Rajya Sabha Chairman and the Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu called for collective reflection and individual introspection on Wednesday, as the House clocked a productivity of 47.9 percent , the fifth-lowest of the 12 sessions held in over four years. On Wednesday, the Rajya Sabha was adjourned sine die, a day ahead of schedule.
Naidu expressed his dissatisfaction with the House's operation. In his brief valedictory remarks, Naidu urged the MPs to reflect collectively and individually on how the session had gone.
He noticed; "Today is the last day of the august House's winter session. I regret to inform you that the House performed far below its potential. I urged everyone to think about how this session could have been different and better, both collectively and individually. I don't want to go into detail about the session's content because it would lead me to take a very critical stance. Statistics on various aspects of the House's operation during this session will be released to the media for wider distribution."
During the 18 sittings of the winter session, which ended on Wednesday, the Rajya Sabha recorded a productivity of 47.90 percent. The House could only discharge business for 45 hours 34 minutes of the total scheduled sitting time of 95 hours 06 minutes. The productivity of 47.90 percent during this session is the fifth-lowest among the 12 sessions presided over by Naidu over the last four years.
